Aftercare

Recovery does not end when you leave Istanbul. Structured aftercare means you know what to expect, who to contact and what to do if something does not feel right.

Aftercare in Istanbul

After surgery you are monitored in hospital until you meet the discharge criteria. During your stay in Istanbul you have scheduled checks with your surgeon, including wound review and dressing changes where needed, and a final assessment before you are cleared to fly.

Before you fly home

  • A written discharge summary describing your procedure
  • Medication guidance, including pain relief and any thrombosis prevention
  • Wound care and compression garment instructions where relevant
  • A recovery plan with activity, work and exercise milestones
  • Clear contact routes for non-urgent questions and concerns

Remote follow-up

Once you are home, follow-up continues by WhatsApp with your coordinator and scheduled video reviews with your surgeon. You may be asked to send photographs at agreed points so your surgeon can review your healing.

Warning signs

Seek urgent medical care locally — by calling your local emergency number — if you experience any of the following. Then let your coordinator know so your surgeon can be informed.

  • Chest pain or sudden breathlessness
  • Pain, swelling or warmth in one calf or leg
  • High fever or feeling acutely unwell
  • Heavy bleeding or rapidly increasing swelling
  • Spreading redness, discharge or a wound opening

Working with your local doctor

We recommend sharing your discharge summary with your GP or family doctor. If you need to be seen locally, your surgeon can provide information to the treating clinician.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I have a problem after returning home?

Contact your coordinator, who will arrange a review with your surgeon — usually by video, with photographs. Your surgeon will advise whether you need to be seen locally. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services first.

How long does remote follow-up continue?

Follow-up intervals depend on your procedure and are agreed in your plan — typically at key points such as one week, six weeks, three months and later where appropriate.

Can my local doctor be involved?

Yes, and we encourage it. Share your discharge summary with your GP or family doctor so they have the information they need if you require care at home.
