What is Brow Lift?
As the forehead ages, the brows can descend, especially at the outer ends, crowding the upper eyelids and creating a heavy or tired look. Forehead lines and frown lines may also deepen. Some women unconsciously raise their brows to compensate, which can contribute to forehead lines and tension.
A brow lift repositions the brow at a natural height. Approaches include an endoscopic brow lift through small incisions in the scalp, a temporal lift targeting the outer brow, and a hairline (trichophytic) lift that can also shorten a high forehead. The technique depends on hairline position, forehead height and the degree of descent.
Who may be suitable?
- A low or heavy brow, particularly at the outer ends
- Upper eyelid heaviness partly caused by brow position
- Frown lines or forehead creases related to brow descent
- Good general health and non-smoking
- Realistic expectations about a natural, not surprised, look
What can this procedure address?
- Low or drooping brows
- Hooding at the outer upper eyelids
- Deep forehead lines and frown lines
- A tired or stern expression
- A high forehead, using a hairline approach where appropriate
Consultation & assessment
Your online assessment includes confidential photographs of your face at rest and with the brows raised, plus your medical history. The surgeon gives an initial view on whether a brow lift, eyelid surgery or both seem appropriate.
In Istanbul, your surgeon examines you before surgery is confirmed, assessing brow position, eyelid skin, hairline and forehead height. Consented before and after photographs can be reviewed during consultation.
How the procedure is performed
In an endoscopic brow lift, small incisions are made behind the hairline. A camera allows the surgeon to release the tissues and lift the brow, which is then secured at its new height.
A temporal brow lift uses incisions in the hairline at the temples to elevate the outer brow. A hairline brow lift uses an incision along the front hairline and can lower a high hairline at the same time.
Anaesthesia
A brow lift is usually performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. Your anaesthetist will review your health beforehand.
Recovery timeline
Days 1–3
Swelling, tightness and bruising around the forehead and eyes. Rest with your head elevated.
Week 1
Sutures or clips are removed. Swelling begins to settle.
Weeks 2–3
Most women return to normal routines. Numbness or itching of the scalp is common.
Week 6
Exercise can usually resume. Sensation continues to return.
3–6 months
Final brow position is established and scars mature.
What to expect during the first week
- Keep your head elevated, including when sleeping
- Avoid bending and heavy lifting
- Wash your hair only as instructed
- Avoid hair dye and heat styling until your surgeon agrees
- Report increasing pain, swelling or fever
When can I fly?
Flying after facial surgery is usually possible within about a week, but your surgeon decides when it is appropriate for you, based on swelling, wound healing and your general health. Stay hydrated and move during the flight to reduce the risk of thrombosis.
When can I return to work?
Most women return to desk-based work after 7–14 days, once swelling and bruising have settled.
When can I exercise?
Walking is encouraged. Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for around four to six weeks.
Scars
Endoscopic and temporal scars are hidden in the hair and are usually small. A hairline incision is designed to be camouflaged, but it may be visible when hair is swept back.
Results
A brow lift can create a more open, rested look. Your surgeon may review consented before and after photographs with you. Results vary between individuals.

How long do results last?
Results are often long-lasting, although the brow continues to age gradually.
