What is Breast Asymmetry Correction?
Breast asymmetry can involve differences in volume, shape, breast fold height or nipple position. It may be developmental, present from puberty, or follow pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight change. Some conditions, such as tuberous breasts or chest wall differences, may contribute.
Correction is individual: one breast may be augmented, reduced or lifted, or both may be treated differently. Exact symmetry is not realistic, because no two breasts are identical, but the aim is a more balanced appearance. If implants are used, the usual implant considerations apply.
Who may be suitable?
- Women with a noticeable difference in breast size or shape
- Those with differing nipple height or areola size
- Women with tuberous or constricted breast features
- Those whose asymmetry developed after pregnancy or weight change
- Women in good health and ideally non-smokers
- Those who understand that some difference will remain
What can this procedure address?
- Unequal breast size
- Differing breast shape or fold position
- Uneven nipple height or areola size
- Difficulty with bra and clothing fit
- Tuberous breast features
Consultation & assessment
Begin with a confidential online assessment, sending photographs securely with your history and any imaging. The team will advise on likely options for each side.
Surgery is confirmed after an in-person examination in Istanbul, where your surgeon measures both breasts, discusses implants, lift, reduction or fat transfer, and explains scars, sensation, breastfeeding and screening.
How the procedure is performed
Techniques depend on the cause. A smaller breast may receive an implant, sometimes with different sizes on each side; a larger or lower breast may be reduced or lifted; and fat transfer can refine smaller differences.
In tuberous breasts, the surgeon may release constricting tissue and reshape the lower breast. Incisions and placement follow the same principles as augmentation, lift or reduction.
Anaesthesia
Asymmetry correction is generally performed under general anaesthesia by a qualified anaesthetist, often with an overnight stay.
Recovery timeline
Days 1–3
Swelling and tightness, sometimes different on each side.
Week 1
Discomfort eases; wound checks take place.
Weeks 2–3
Return to desk-based work and light activities.
Week 6
Gradual return to exercise as advised.
3–6 months
Swelling settles and the shape becomes clearer.
12 months
Scars mature and the final balance is assessed.
What to expect during the first week
- Wear your surgical bra continuously
- Sleep on your back, propped up
- Avoid lifting and overhead reaching
- Walk gently several times daily
- Report fever, redness or one-sided swelling promptly
When can I fly?
Flying is typically possible after 7–12 days depending on the procedures performed, following a surgeon's review. Take precautions against blood clots during the flight.
When can I return to work?
Desk-based work is often possible after 1–3 weeks depending on the techniques used.
When can I exercise?
Walking from day one is encouraged; strenuous and upper-body exercise usually resumes around 6 weeks, with your surgeon's guidance.
Scars
Scars depend on the techniques used and may differ between sides. They are permanent but usually fade over 12–18 months.
Results
Improved balance is visible early, with final results emerging over months. Complete symmetry is not achievable. Results vary between individuals. Consented before and after photographs are reviewed during consultation.

How long do results last?
Results are long-lasting, but each breast may age differently, and pregnancy or weight change can affect balance. Implants, if used, are not lifetime devices.
