Breast Lift in Istanbul

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes breasts that have dropped, and moves the nipple and areola to a higher position. It is commonly considered after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss, and uses your own tissue rather than implants.

What is Breast Lift?

Over time, and especially after pregnancy and breastfeeding, the skin and supporting tissues of the breast stretch. The breast can descend, flatten in the upper part and the nipple may point downwards or sit below the breast crease — a change known as ptosis. A breast lift removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue into a higher, more youthful cone and repositions the nipple and areola. The size of the areola can also be reduced.

A lift alone does not significantly increase volume. Women who would also like more fullness, particularly in the upper breast, may be advised to consider a lift with implants, or fat transfer in selected cases. Because a lift relies on skin and tissue that will continue to age, the shape changes over the years, though many women find the improvement remains meaningful.

Who may be suitable?

  • Women whose breasts have dropped or flattened after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
  • Those whose nipples sit at or below the breast crease or point downwards
  • Women with enlarged or stretched areolae
  • Women who are happy with their breast size but not their shape or position
  • Those at a stable weight, in good health and ideally non-smokers
  • Women who have completed their family, or understand future pregnancy may change results

What can this procedure address?

  • Drooping or sagging breasts (ptosis)
  • Low or downward-pointing nipples
  • Stretched or enlarged areolae
  • Loss of upper breast shape after children
  • Mild asymmetry in breast position

Consultation & assessment

Begin with a confidential online assessment: you send photographs securely with your medical and pregnancy history, breastfeeding plans and any recent breast imaging. The surgeon's team will advise on the likely lift pattern and whether you might benefit from added volume.

Surgery is only confirmed after an in-person examination in Istanbul. Your surgeon will measure nipple position, skin quality and breast volume, explain where scars will lie, and discuss the effects on sensation and breastfeeding. Breast screening should be up to date for your age before surgery.

How the procedure is performed

The incision pattern depends on how much lift is needed. A periareolar (donut) lift around the areola suits mild drooping. A vertical or lollipop lift adds a line from the areola down to the crease and is used for moderate drooping. An anchor or inverted-T lift adds a scar along the breast crease for more significant excess skin.

Through these incisions the surgeon reshapes and supports the breast tissue, removes excess skin and lifts the nipple and areola, which usually remain attached to their underlying blood and nerve supply. Some surgeons use internal stitches or tissue flaps to support the new shape.

The skin is closed in layers with dissolvable stitches and supportive dressings, and you are fitted with a surgical bra. Small drains are sometimes used for a day or so.

Anaesthesia

A breast lift is performed under general anaesthesia by a qualified anaesthetist. Local anaesthetic may be infiltrated to aid comfort after surgery, and most women stay one night in hospital.

Recovery timeline

  1. Days 1–3

Soreness, swelling and tightness are common. You will wear a surgical bra and walk short distances regularly.

  2. Week 1

Discomfort settles with simple pain relief. Wound checks take place before you fly home.

  3. Weeks 2–3

Many women return to desk-based work. Avoid lifting and strain while the incisions strengthen.

  4. Week 6

A gradual return to exercise is often permitted. Breasts are still settling and may look high and firm.

  5. 3–6 months

The shape softens and settles. Scars are still maturing and may be pink.

  6. 12 months

Scars usually fade further and the breast shape is close to its long-term appearance.

What to expect during the first week

  • Wear your surgical bra day and night unless told otherwise
  • Sleep on your back with your upper body raised
  • Avoid lifting, pushing or reaching overhead
  • Walk gently several times daily
  • Keep wounds clean and dry; follow dressing advice
  • Report fever, increasing redness, wound discharge or darkening of the nipple promptly

When can I fly?

Most women can fly around 7–10 days after a breast lift, after a post-operative review. Move around during the flight, keep well hydrated and wear compression stockings if advised to reduce the risk of blood clots. Avoid lifting luggage.

When can I return to work?

Desk-based work is often possible after about 2 weeks. Physically demanding roles generally need 4–6 weeks.

When can I exercise?

Walking is encouraged straight away. Lower-impact exercise may resume around 3–4 weeks, with running, upper-body training and swimming usually from around 6 weeks with a supportive sports bra.

Scars

Scars follow the lift pattern: around the areola, and possibly vertically down to the crease and along the crease. They are visible at first and usually fade over 12–18 months, though they remain permanent. Healing at the junction of the vertical and horizontal scars can be slower in anchor lifts.

Results

A breast lift gives a higher, firmer breast shape and a better-positioned nipple, with improvement visible straight away and refining over several months. Results vary between individuals. Consented before and after photographs are reviewed during consultation.

How long do results last?

A lift is long-lasting, but gravity, ageing, pregnancy and weight change will continue to affect the breast. Some women eventually choose a further lift. Keeping a stable weight helps maintain results.

Potential risks and complications

All surgical procedures carry risks. Your surgeon will discuss the potential benefits, limitations and individual risks with you before you decide whether to proceed.

  • Bleeding, haematoma and infection
  • Delayed wound healing, especially where scars meet
  • Prominent, stretched, raised or darkened scars
  • Changes in nipple sensation, which may be permanent
  • Reduced ability to breastfeed
  • Partial or, rarely, complete loss of the nipple or areola due to reduced blood supply
  • Asymmetry in shape or nipple position, and recurrence of drooping
  • Fat necrosis, causing firm lumps that may need investigation
  • Risks of anaesthesia and blood clots

Choosing a surgeon

  • Specialist plastic surgery training and registration you can verify through the Turkish Medical Association and relevant societies
  • Experience with different mastopexy patterns and with post-pregnancy breasts
  • Willingness to show consented before and after photographs of similar cases
  • Privileges at an accredited private hospital
  • A clear plan for aftercare and scar care once you are home

Breast Lift: frequently asked questions

How long should I stay in Istanbul after a breast lift?

Usually around 7–10 days, allowing for consultation, surgery and post-operative checks. Your surgeon will confirm when you are ready to travel.

When can I fly home?

Most women fly after 7–10 days once reviewed. Walk during the flight, stay hydrated and follow advice on compression stockings.

Will a breast lift make my breasts bigger?

A lift reshapes and raises the breast but does not add significant volume. It can sometimes make breasts appear slightly smaller because excess skin is removed. If you would like more fullness, ask about a lift with implants.

Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?

Many women can, because the nipple usually stays attached to the underlying tissue, but milk supply may be reduced. Future pregnancy and breastfeeding can also change the lift result, so timing matters.

How much does a breast lift cost in Turkey?

It depends on the surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, the technique, hospital stay, any combined procedures and accommodation. A personalised written quote follows assessment.

What results can I expect, and can I see before and after photos?

Consented before and after photographs of similar cases are reviewed during consultation. Most women see a higher, firmer shape that settles over months. Results vary between individuals.
